Elo Roiter, born in Chemnitz in 2000 and of Ukrainian heritage, is a violist, conductor and music educator. During their time at the Landesmusikgymnasium Dresden, Elo developed original music theatre projects and received comprehensive training in violin, viola and singing. They are an alumnus of the German National Youth Orchestra.

Since 2021, Elo has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden, initially studying viola with Andreas Kuhlmann and Christina Biwank and, since 2024, conducting with Prof. Valtteri Rauhalammi. Alongside their musical studies, Elo studies philosophy at TU Dresden and works as a tutor in the university’s Faculty of philosophy.

As a freelance musician, Elo is truly a musical chameleon. They work across early music, classical orchestral and chamber music, jazz and improvisation, feeling equally at home in small, unconventional formats and on major international stages—from the forests of the Dresden Heide to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Elo performs in a wide range of chamber music settings and has collaborated with renowned musicians and conductors, including Kirill Petrenko, Sir Simon Rattle and Oksana Lyniv, as well as Cymin Samawatie and the Trickster Orchestra. International projects and tours have taken Elo throughout Europe and as far as India.

Conducting is another important dimension of Elo’s artistic work. They have worked with the Dresden Baroque Orchestra and regularly organise their own musical projects. As part of their final examination, Elo conducted Don Giovanni at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden.

International, interdisciplinary and collaborative projects are particularly important to Elo. They view music as a space for encounter, bringing together people, perspectives and cultural experiences. Questions of equality and gender are central to their work, including their involvement with the German Music Council’s committee for the music industry and media.

Beyond music, Elo enjoys drawing and writing texts and poetry. They are passionate about feminist literature and Greek drama, as well as theatre and spending time outdoors. Elo loves chocolate milk.
